Liya hadn't looked closely at the fountain before, but she did now, as Yoshi stood looking idly around for his construct. Now Liya saw that the statue in the middle of the little fountain--white stone worn smooth in most places, stained with moss in others--was sitting in the water rather than on a pedestal above it. She could see its feet disappearing just below the surface, and below that, the water was dark and impenetrable. She could not see the bottom, or what the statue was ostensibly sitting on.

"Do you remember where my construct fell?" Yoshi asked, breaking her train of thought. She glanced up and saw Yoshi was standing just in front of one of the doors set in the little white-washed buildings at the end of the courtyard. She pointed.

"Um, right where you're standing."

Yoshi looked around his feet, then turned and peered into the bushes and reeds that were growing between the two buildings.

"It was right in front of the door," Liya added, and muttered, "m-maybe someone else took it? I'm sorry..."

"Ah," Yoshi said, and crouched, sticking his hand into the brush between the two buildings. After a moment of rummaging in the wiry grass and moss, he produced the construct from where it had been sitting, mostly hidden. He handed it to Liya.

"Here it is," he said brightly. Liya cupped the construct in her hands; its bright yellow body and metallic compound eyes looked no worse for wear despite having been left outdoors for a while.

"How did it get there?" Liya asked, curious.

"They're meant to hide themselves if you lose them," Yoshi explained. "So no one else takes them."

"Oh, cool. They walk??"

"Some do." Yoshi stood, brushing his hands off. "You should see the Cynn's construct. He built it himself! She walks and has her own voice--" He saw he look Liya gave him and hesitated. "Oh. Never mind."

Liya looked down at the construct sitting in her hands. "Sorry I dropped you," she told it.
