"Right here," the werewolf said, tapping a spot on Hawk's map just further up the highway than they were, almost to the next major city, "There's a travelling bar with an inn. I been there once on a road trip. It's run by an interspecies couple. We could hole up there until ports open."
The fire had died down some, leaving the light somewhat dimmer. The werewolf had to hold the map down so that Abi, Parker, Minnie, and Joe could all see it, ranged as they were around him. Aram and Kim were quietly and quickly signing to each other; Hawk had stayed back by the camper, away from the group, watching grimly. Teige paced.
"No," Minnie answered. "There'd be a hundred monsters in one place. We'd all be sitting ducks."
"You got a better idea, witch lady?"
Teige seemed to break from his thoughts some, noticing Hawk standing alone. He headed over as the werewolf went on, talking about the bar being rooted in another world and only projected into theirs, about its ability to merely vanish if anything went wrong, about there being nowhere safer to be.
"Well, Sunshine," Teige murmured, sidling up beside Hawk. "You've got the wings. I reckon we go on ahead from here, yeah?"
Hawk said nothing. Parker had her back to them, telling Minnie that she didn't see a better option; Minnie rolled her eyes in response. Teige glanced up at Hawk.
"Sunshine?"
