The slap seemed to have genuinely stunned Michi; the hard look in her eyes had gone, replaced by surprise. Color rose on her cheek where she'd been struck.
"I don't have feelings?!" Shinobu was nearly hysterical by this point. Barely contained tears had welled up in her wide eyes. "For CENTURIES now you've uprooted our lives CONSTANTLY! Because you can't stop yourself from hunting cattle, and stalking travelers, and haunting the roads!"
Michi turned on her heel and strode away silently, her face settling into a furious mask. Shinobu followed her.
"And EVERY TIME, I've done ALL the work it takes to move us somewhere new! Even though I KNOW you'll just ruin it all again! Because I LOVE YOU."
Michi didn't react to the appeal in Shinobu's voice--she only continued to stomp towards the house, the bucket of cut greens still clenched in one fist. Shinobu stopped, watching her, and held out her arms helplessly.
"I don't have FEELINGS?!"
