"Lady friend?" the werewolf asked Teige, casually putting Joe in a headlock as he did. Teige flipped the phone open.
"Nah," he said. "My family. I haven't been able to reach them since I left Earth. Mum won't have any idea where I am. I want her to know I'm alive, at the very least."
Hawk took a drink, and then set the can down, silent.
The inside of the camper was dimly lit by the firelight blazing outside; a strip of light fell across Parker, who--in the shape of a hyena fitting oddly into her human clothes--was curled up at the small table with her head on her knees. The light briefly turned her eyes into pinpoints of bright white, and Hawk paused halfway into the camper on seeing her.
"Oh," he said, "Sorry, I'll just--"
"Naw, baby, it's okay," Parker interrupted, raising her head. Hawk didn't even have to blink before she was suddenly human-shaped again. "Come in and sit down."
Obligingly, Hawk threw himself down on the couch opposite Parker, letting his wings half-unfurl to take up the whole length of the furniture.
"I'm just in time-out for arguin' with my ex-girlfriend," Parker said as he did this. "Nothing more pointless in the god-damn world."
Hawk gave her a surprised look, realizing what she meant. "Minnie??" he asked, incredulously.
