"Nice face," Parker said, amused.
"W-wull," Hawk stammered, "You're just so n-nice, an' she's so--"
"Oh, like you never misplaced your affections."
Hawk flushed. "Wull," he muttered, looking away. Parker smirked.
"Uh-huh." She paused a moment, thoughtfully, and then said, "Minnie's prickly. But she's also human. She coulda left me and Abi behind easy and gone north with no trouble. But she didn't."
Hawk didn't answer, somewhat embarrassed. Parker regarded him for a moment, and then said, "Can I ask you something?"
Hawk glanced at her.
"Teige's transgender, right? Do you think he'd talk to me about it?"
For a moment, Hawk had to parse what she was saying--as she did, his brow knit. "Why--" he started, warily, but Parker interrupted him.
"'Cause I've never met another trans monster," she said. "I wasn't even sure if there were others."
[OK guys, the majority of you have been class acts in the comment section, but: if you are unfamiliar with trans people, I strongly encourage you to read some more about it before you comment. I get a lot of well-meaning people who post things that would probably ruin a real-life trans person's day (and trust me, there are trans people reading the comic and the comments.) Consider it a learning opportunity.
Basic definition of what being trans is
Things not to say (to real life people, but please pay attention to the part about backhanded compliments.)
Thanks for reading and being super cool, y'all! :D ]
