"...I used to," Liya replied after a bit, and took a fruit that resembled an apple from the bag next. "But I guess not anymore."
"Great," Hawk said. "Then what's the problem?"
He extracted a small jar from the bag while Liya struggled to answer that. The jar was covered by a small round piece of cloth, or paper, which was tied over the mouth with a string; Hawk removed it. It was full of some crumbly material, and he set it next to the plant on the table.
"Y-you don't feel like...like somethin's gonna go wrong? And then we might have to leave?"
Hawk shot Liya a look that she didn't return, as she took a bite out of the fruit instead. He sighed.
"Is this why you ain't asked Yoshi out?" he wanted to know. "Because you think we might have to leave?"
"Nuh--no!!" Liya said defensively, around her mouthful. But she reconsidered, and admitted, "...Maybe a little."
"Wull I worry about that too," Hawk said. Liya looked up at him.
"Oh. Really?"
"Oh, yeah." Hawk dug a little hole in the center of the jar with two of his fingers. "I dunno how long things have to be stable before I stop worryin' about it all fallin' apart."
